2010 UP Diliman Month

This year’s UP Diliman Month celebration commences February 1 with the College of Music’s UGNAYAN: Conference and Performances running up to February 3 and the college’s 94th Anniversary Chamber Music Festival, marked by musical performances on February 9, 16, 17, 18, and 25 every 6:00 pm, at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium. The first week, which is a music-filled week, is capped with a special jazz-dance concert, featuring the UP Jazz Ensemble and the UP Dance Company, titled Sing! Dance! Sing! on February 5, 6:30 pm at the University Theater.

All activities are open to the public but control tickets for the Sing! Dance! Sing! Jazz-Dance Concert are available at the OICA office, 2nd level, University Theater.

The traditional Himigsikan will again be heard every Sunday this February, at 5:00 pm at the Carillon Plaza featuring Ms. Bayang Barrios on February 7, Mr. Noel Cabangon on February 14, the Reggae Mistress on February 21, and Kadangyan on February 28.

The centerpiece of the Diliman Month celebrations is an ethnographic exhibit on Baler at the Bulwagan ng Dangal and the Vargas Museum. The project is a joint undertaking of the offices of the UPD Chancellor and Senator Edgardo Angara through the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA). The exhibit formally opens on February 15 and runs until March 31.

The 2nd Asean Puppetry Festival, led by the Samahan ng mga Papitir ng Pilipinas (SPP) in partnership with the UP Department of Speech Communication and Theater Arts, the College of Music, and the ASEAN Puppetry Association (APA) is slated from February 23 up to 28. The Diliman month concludes with the Linggo ng Parangal wherein honor and recognition are given to outstanding students during the Parangal sa Mag-aaral on February 23 at the Film Institute; the retirees during the Parangal sa Retirado at Gawad Paglilingkod on February 24 at the NISMED Auditorium; and outstanding faculty and staff during the Gawad Chanselor on February 25 at the Malcolm Hall.

The UP Pep Squad stages Elevate 10: Lift One Another UP, an annual and much anticipated cheerdance competition, at the University Theater on February 26 with a matinee at 3pm and a gala at 7 pm.
