Independence is an act of will, and will needs training or learning. While will is a candle of life, given at conception or birth, it requires igniting to kindle. It requires air and space to shine large. (In this regard and using a different metaphor, I usually tell my students that it takes one who has taken the first step when the resistance to it is greatest, eventually to take more steps and to will to climb Mt. Everest. That’s how mind comes over matter.) At times, it is parents or the elders who rob the young the gift of life: the will with which the young may grow to tower among fellows. Parents usually do things for the young, even when the latter can already do the things themselves. They do, especially for the young with whom they see themselves or see beauty and quality. But the kindling and growth of will also goes through a critical period. If not kindled and sustained in time, it dies as if it never has been, to begin with. Will is one of the constant factors behind any success.

  1. Hi, Faye,

Uc told me you had asked him to change the look of Den’s website. I like the new look. It’s more fresh, befitting the fact that it’s been a year since Den left us.

    Thanks to you, and Uc.

  2. Credits must actually go to Bryn, who suggested it to me in the first place. :)

  3. A, ok. Thanks, Bryn.
