… Everything of me now is bonus. I can leave, thinking that no one was bothered to send anyone of my children to school to study as long as they like and have. In the process, I realize the more that I can now be left alone. With my responsibility for my children done, I can be alone… And death when it comes, especially naturally after a fulfilled life, must be the easiest to take or handle. Breathing simply stops. That’s all about it to differentiate it from the simple phase of sleep…

Faye, almost exactly two years to the day after Den wrote this, Avi graduates.  Den would’ve been so proud.  It was part of our pride that we sent you all to school with almost no help from anyone–not Den’s relatives, not my relatives.  So that, you stand independent, owing no one save for the fact that our parents–and grandparents, in my case–had raised us as well as they could, given their particular circumstances.
