EVERY TIME WE SAY GOODBYE
Words & Music: Cole Porter

Every time we say goodbye,
I die a little.
Every time we say goodbye,
I wonder why a little–

Why do gods above me,
Who must be in the know.
Think so little of me
They allow you to go?

When you’re near,
There’s such an air
Of spring about it.
I can hear
A lark somewhere
Begin to sing about it.

There’s no love song finer,
But how strange the change
From major to minor
Every time we say goodbye.

TUWING MAGPAPAALAM KA
Sa himig ng “Every Time We Say Goodbye”
Salinawit: Pete Lacaba

Tuwing magpapaalam ka,
Ako’y pumapanaw.
Tuwing magpapaalam ka
Ay ibig kong malaman-

Bakit ba ang langit
Na ubod ng bait
Ay laging pumapayag
Sa iyong pag-alis?

Kung narito ka,
Pakiramdam ko,
Ako’y lumulutang,
At dinig ko
Ang mga anghel
Na nag-aawitan.

Kay ganda ng awit,
Ngunit bakit ba
Nawawala ang himig
Tuwing magpapaalam ka?

[This must be one of the loveliest songs in the movie of Cole Porter’s life, De-Lovely. The VCD of this movie was perhaps the last movie that Den and I watched together at home. At the time, I had no inkling that he, too, would soon say Goodbye, for good.]

  1. Ironic, the things we last remember doing with Dad. :(
